The first day's play has been called off due to relentless rain in Kanpur with just 35 overs of play being possible. The rain prediction is for the first three days in Kanpur and it might be a stop-start procession throughout the Test match.?

It will be a miracle if any more play is possible today in Kanpur as it is pelting down at the moment. The ground is full covered in the live pictures. First, the rain has to stop completely for the groundsmen to come into action and by then there will be water which would have sneaked under the covers and then to dry it out fully. This will be a task.

It might just be a precautionary measure but hessian cover?has been brought in and slowly the outfield is also being covered as it has gotten really dark in Kanpur. We might be in for a longer delay here.

Yes, the bad light has stopped play in Kanpur as it continues to be a frustrating day for both the players and the fans. The umpires brought out the light meter and since Rohit Sharma wanted to bowl his pacer, the officials decided to walk off.

Mudhfiqur Rahim has joined former Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque in the middle after Shanto's dismissal. Mominul has been really solid, currently batting on 36 and Bangladesh would want him to continue for as long as possible.

It seems like the wicket has settled in a bit and Ashwin is getting the ball to do stuff. Mushfiqur Rahim will have to be a bit cautious with Ashwin using the angles and his height to good effect and Bangladesh will have to be careful because this is a tricky period. One wicket more could really set spanner in the works.

R Ashwin has struck and Bangladesh lose their captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. In-drifter from Ashwin kept coming in and Shanto played down the wrong line only to get adjudged LBW. He reviewed it but to no avail. Bangladesh have lost three wickets now.

The partnership currently is of 45 runs and if Bangladesh have to put pressure on India, captain and former captain,?Shanto and Mominul have to take it to 100-150 and lead the visitors' comeback.

The start of the second session was delayed due to rain and it will resume at 1:25 PM IST as updated by the BCCI official handle. It will be a stop-start kind of day in Kanpur with sun playing hide and seek and same with the clouds.?

Even as the players left the field, covers came on with rain returning. It has intensified as well now. Fingers crossed as play is scheduled to resume at 1:10 PM. On time resumption seems unlikely now. Let's hope that the rain relents soon

The first session of the Kanpur Test has ended and Bangladesh have recovered from a poor start to finish at 74/2 with Mominul and Shanto looking solid. India will be a bit disappointed to not get at least one more wicket. Add to it, they have burnt a review as well already. Conditions have eased out a bit to bat and Bangladesh batters have a good chance now to make merry. At the same time, India will throw everything at them with Ravindra Jadeja yet to be introduced into the attack.

Shanto and Mominul are really looking good in the middle with conditions easing out for batting now. It was a surprising decision to bowl first but the bowling needs to be up to the mark now as both batters are looking comfortable in the middle. Can India pick one more wicket before lunch break?

Ravichandran Ashwin is back in the attack with Shanto and Mominul batting well. The off-spinner had bowled three overs in his first spell but there is no spin from the pitch at the moment. With a partnership building for third wicket, the onus will be on Ashwin to strike for the hosts now. Can he do it though? Will Bangladesh go only two down at lunch?

After Akash Deep picked two quick wickets, Bangladesh batters Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto have blunted the Indian bowling. Bangladesh have crossed the 50-run mark and with 30 minutes to go for lunch, India would want to one or two more wickets to vindicate their decision to bowl first.

Mohammed Siraj hit Najmul Hossain Shanto on his pads and it seemed high on the naked eye but the bowler was quite confident and even the wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was positive but the replays showed that it was pitching outside leg and India have lost a review.

Akash Deep has gotten his second wicket. Even skipper Rohit Sharma was surprised with what he saw on the screen. Another one for India. It was a nipbacker alright and hit Shadman Islam on his pads. It seemed to be going down with the angle as he was bowling from around the wicket, which is what Rohit reckoned at first but gave into the bowler's suggestion. The hawkeye showed the ball thudding into the leg-stump and Bangladesh have lost a couple of quick wickets.

BAN - 28/2 (13 overs)

Indian team has finally struck and it is Akash Deep once again, who gets the breakthrough in his very first over. Akash Deep induced Zakir Hasan into the drive and Yashasvi Jaiswal took a good catch diving forward at gully. The umpire looked at a couple of replays but gave the decision in the hosts' favour. Bangladesh have lost their opener.

BAN - 26/1 (9 overs)

Jasprit Bumrah's second over is done and India are yet to breakthrough after three overs. Bangladesh openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam have tackled the conditions decently so far. But they have a big job in their hands yet. Can they survive? Or a wicket is just around the corner?

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are the new ball bowlers for India. But the duo has not been able to provide the breakthrough in their first over. India have opted to bowl first and the pressure will be on them now to dictate terms. They would love to pick three wickets in the opening session or else will be disappointed with their effort.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first after winning the toss, looking at the pitch and the conditions with the rain around. Rohit said that the wicket looked a bit soft and wanted to make use of the conditions with their three seamers. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, on the other hand, was happy to bat first.

The inspection is done and the toss is set to take place at 10 AM. Play will start at 10:30 AM. Team winning the toss should bat or bowl first?

Inspection at 9:30 and hopefully there will be a good news since there is no rain in Kanpur currently.

Team India unsurprisingly retained the same squad for the second Test against Bangladesh, however, there may be change in the playing XI with one of Jasprit Bumrah or Mohammed Siraj likely to be rested. Kuldeep Yadav, the local boy, might return to the side after missing the first Test in Chennai with India going with three pacers.

Murali Karthik during pitch report said that it is a black soil pitch in Kanpur for the second Test and is likely to be slow. However, there is a bit of grass on the surface and even though it might be there just to bind the whole surface together, it might help the seamer a bit at the start given the overcast conditions. However, the captain winning the toss will want to bat first given the history of the ground as first innings is always the biggest score and then it keeps getting lower and lower.?

The toss has been delayed due to wet outfield. There is no rain currently but there were overnight showers and the water might have slipped under the covers onto the field even though the whole ground was covered. For now there will be an inspection at 9:30 AM IST with the groundsmen using a cloth to wipe out water from a few wet patches.

Bangladesh will rue their chances of letting India loose after having them 144/6 on the first day and the hosts then didn't let the opportunity go. Bangladesh will be extra motivated after Shakib's announcement as who knows it might be his last match in the whites and would want to finish on a high. Bangladesh showed promise but need to win multiple sessions to put pressure on India in India.

India will be up against Bangladesh in the second and final Test of the series in Kanpur. India are 1-0 ahead in the series after a 280-run win in Chennai and will be keen to sweep it in Kanpur, while Shakib Al Hasan's announcement has added a bit of spice to the decider.
